Storyline
Announcement
As supplies dwindle and medical staff succumb to fatigue, Starfleet is becoming desperate. However, some enterprising minds may have a bold - if not risky - solution. [1]
Prologue
- Sarah April: "I'm sure you're already aware of our dire situation, Captain. They've even asked retirees like myself to come back and lend a hand. If only that were the extent of our problems."
- Sarah April: "Our medical supplies are rapidly being depleted. The medical replicators can scarcely keep up and now we're seeing some replicated medicines with potentially fatal errors."
- Nurse Faith Garland: "I can't imagine living in a time when you can replicate what you need and still not having enough. How is that possible?"
- Sarah April: "Nothing is infinite. Not our supplies, nor our replicators, and certainly not the energy of our doctors and nurses. We could use your help, Captain, to keep us going."
Intermission
- Sarah April: "Captain, thank you so much for your efforts. You managed to alleviate some of the stress and scarcity we've been facing."
- Farek: "But for how long? How long can you all truly keep going at this rate? Look at you. You're run down. Your replicators are malfunctioning. Your supplies are dwindling. But I could solve those problems for you if you do a little something for me in return."
- Choice A
- Captain: "And what is this 'little something'?"
- Farek: "I just want a little bit of data, is all. You'll just need to run a few tests on some of your hu—mons, Vulcans, Andorians, Betazeds...nothing too involved and most likely not lethal. You scratch my lobes, I get you the supplies you need."
- Choice B
- Captain: "How could you solve our problem?"
- Farek: "You need supplies that we have in abundance. When you're as enterprising as we are, you manage to train your lobes for where the greatest need is - so you can fill it with a handsome surcharge of course!"
- Choice C
- Captain: "What if we refuse?"
- Farek: "Then we move on to the next customer who knows a good deal when they see one. And your desperate patients...well, what happens to them will just be a shame, won't it?"
- Farek: "My offer won't be on the table for long, Captain. And your most critical patients can't afford to delay. What do you say?"
Epilogue
- Nurse Faith Garland: "My, I'm amazed to see how far medical technology in your era has come, Captain. Still, I'm not comfortable with the tradeoff you might have to make to get it."
